Essential Functions:
Display honest, trustworthy, and ethical behavior when dealing with internal and external customers.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Regular attendance that is punctual and dependable is required.
Inspect mechanical construction, design, installation, location, maintenance and quality of materials at construction sites.
Inspect and enforce the state and local mechanical codes and ordinances.
Interpret mechanical codes for the public, City staff, contractors, engineers and architects.
Serve on a variety of boards including the Mechanical Board; provide code interpretations for each Board; recommend policy changes as necessary.
Perform inspections of mechanical installations.
Ensure heating and air conditioning units are installed according to City, State and Federal specifications.
Answer questions and provide information to the public, City staff, contractors, engineers and architects regarding mechanical related issues; investigate complaints and recommend corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints.
Participate in building inspections as required; issue permits to the public.
Prepare letters and notices to tenants and home owners of structures needing repair work.
Administer a variety of tests for the trades industry.
Prepare reports, involves gathering, interpreting and organizing data.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Two years of experience performing mechanical inspections or as a Master Mechanical Fitter or 4 years of experience as a Journeyman Mechanical Fitter and eligible to obtain a Master Mechanical Fitter’s License.
Training:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in the mechanical trade or a related field.
License or Certifications:
Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid Master Mechanical License, and a Mechanical Inspector’s Certification through IAPMO within one year of employment.
Employee must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain insurability as determined by the City’s insurance carrier.
Working Hours:Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; dependent upon department needs.
Salary:
Position will start at the entry level of the City's salary table. Consideration may be given if experience exceeds entry level qualifications.
Other:
Position will start on or after March 3, 2025.
