Tuesday, September 5, 2023Growing and retaining our workforce is essential to the future prosperity of Grand Island. Businesses – large and small – make decisions daily about their operations and labor is always one of the top considerations. To this end, the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce and Grow Grand Island are collaborating with Wayne State College (WSC) to bring potential talent (college seniors) to the community via the Careers Scholars Cooperative Education Program. This program is designed to provide students with hands-on experience and a pathway to successful careers. Students spend three years studying at WSC, followed by a year of paid internship at local Grand Island businesses. We see it every day, drive by it routinely, and it doesn’t stand out to us as anything out of the ordinary. However, I recently had the opportunity to provide a tour of our community to an individual interested in a position in Grand Island. One of the first things he observed was how in every quadrant of the community, growth activity was occurring. Our community has been the benefactor of some great projects in the last few years, and as one pauses and looks back, we can be very proud of what has been accomplished. Thursday, January 6, 2022Grand Island is my home, and I am proud to call it my home. It has been for 36 years, and I plan for it to be for many years to come. In those 36 years, I’ve watched Grand Island grow from a cornfield-lined Highway 281 city of 35,000 people to a population of approximately 51,000 people and an ever-growing corridor. Friday, September 24, 2021Grand Island business leaders listed workforce and housing as their top concerns during a meeting with Nebraska Chamber staff Thursday at the Riverside Golf Club. The meeting was sponsored by the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce and the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Friday, July 30, 2021Statistics released by the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce this week shows the average sold price of a house in Grand Island in June was $220,529, compared to $171,016 in June of 2020, which is an increase of nearly $50,000 in a 12-month period.
