Even before the Nebraska State Fair officially opened in Grand Island in 2010, Ben Murphy was a State Fair volunteer. He began volunteering as the fair was preparing to open for its community debut in the community, and logged a total of 80 hours of volunteer work that year. Murphy has been volunteering ever since.

A new, state-of-the-art, $15 million Central Nebraska Sports Complex, to be built on Wood River Road, on the west side of Highway 281, was announced Tuesday morning by a group of Grand Island business and civic leaders. Construction is scheduled to begin early next year.

Last month was National Internship Awareness Month.
Career Edge Organization founded National Internship Awareness Month to celebrate the benefits of internships and the opportunities they provide to students.
In Grand Island, the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce is working to access the numerous benefits that internships can bring to the community workforce, said Cindy Johnson, chamber president.
